The 3rd edition of the 'Quzhou Lanke Cup' World Weiqi Open Tournament kickstarted on June 30th with the drawing and opening ceremony. Playing for Europe, Andrii Kravets 2p, who had qualified in an online tournament earlier this year.

On July 1st, the first round of 48 took place, with 16 players already qualified (with Shin Jinseo, Byun Sangil and all go monsters etc) and 32 other players figthing in that first round to join them.

This time, Andrii didn't get some top 10 player (which was statistically normal because 16 better players were not included in this round!), but still got a very tough opponent directly: Fan Yin 8p, 35th best player in the world according to goratings.org. 

Unfortunately, Andrii's game went a little bit straigthforward to a severe defeat. After a big mistake in the early game (not connecting the peep at the top), the situation escalated to a very big disadvantage for Andrii, who had no other choice but to try as hard as possible to fight back in a very disagreeable situation, leading to a complete loss.

"This time, I tried to make some crazy game. We had a very intense first fight where I could get not bad result, but I just could not find the right variation (I was looking for it for more than 15 min and than picked the worse one). Just a few moves after, Fan Yin cuts and starts another complicated fight where I played a blunder and the game was lost (if I dont do it, the game is still good for him, but it's very complicated)"

A sad end in this round of 48, but a lot to learn from this experience!

June 30th: Registration, Opening ceremony
July 1st: Top 48 match (32 playing + 16 selected directly to the round of top 32)
July 2nd: Top 32 match
The rounds after will take place in autumn.

Qualification for participation: Professional players, amateur players of 7 Dan or above.

Location: Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province

Time control: 2 hours are assigned for each side, and the overtime allocation is 5 periods of 60 seconds.

Fees: 48 players in the major competion will be awarded prize money, and any other expenses will be borne by the players.

Prize (before tax): Losers in 1st round : 20,000 RMB
